Innovation and predictive technology for fire detection in our data centres

As a world leader in data centres, our absolute priority is to offer our customers a reliable and secure infrastructure. HDSN’s E-PREDICT solution is an innovative way of preventing electrical fires. Thanks to this predictive technology, we are able to identify and intervene at an extremely early stage on any abnormal heating in our electrical cabinets, making it possible to detect a fire well in advance and reduce the risks.

This choice of technology reflects our ongoing commitment to protecting our customers’ data by maintaining the highest standards of security and business continuity. At the same time, it completes the range of good practices we are putting in place to reduce the environmental impact of our data centres in France: eco-designed, produced in France, refurbishable and using recyclable materials, its use avoids the increase in electricity consumption associated with equipment heating up. This innovation ultimately serves a dual objective: to protect our customers’ data, while limiting its ecological cost.”

CNPP

CNPP Cert. is an independent certification body recognised by security and insurance professionals. In particular, it issues service certifications under the APSAD brand and product certifications under the A2P brand in the fields of risk prevention and control. The certifications issued by CNPP Cert. are recognitions and passports of trust attested by a third party as part of a collective approach in which all stakeholders are involved within certification committees: security professionals, users, specifiers, insurers and public authorities.

« Obtenir la certification CNPP Initial est un atout incontestable et témoigne d’un travail d’innovation indéniable ».

Actemium by Vinci Energies

Anticipating fires up to several days in advance

As an integrator, our main objective is to provide our industrial customers with a reliable and effective solution for preventing fires in their electrical cabinets. However, incipient electrical fires are often detected late, sometimes resulting in the destruction of the enclosure, operational stoppages and the spread of the fire to other parts of the building.

Current monitoring systems detect fires in their growth phase, but are unable to detect the warning signals of an imminent fire risk.

E-PREDICT is able to detect phenomena that may indicate a risk of fire, whether it’s an overload on a cable, overvoltage, poor tightening, an electric arc, an electrical leak or any other malfunction. This enables us to anticipate fires up to several days in advance.

Convinced of the benefits of E-PREDICT in making our industrial customers’ processes more reliable, we worked closely with HDSN to develop a dry contact version of E-PREDICT that enables manufacturers to easily integrate the system into existing installations, such as PLCs or fault chains, without having to make major modifications.

E-PREDICT dry contact is a real revolution for manufacturers. It offers essential preventive protection for the safety of our customers’ installations.

MS AMLIN

“MS Amlin, through its engineering services, is committed to offering its policyholders innovative, tailor-made prevention solutions that help prevent the main causes of fire. As such, our engineering services offer this predictive solution, in addition to the annual thermographic surveys.

The advantage of this solution is that it detects particles and gases emitted by overheating in electrical cabinets (25% of fires in industry) at a very early stage, giving site operators time to implement control measures in the event of an alarm. However, the department in charge of maintenance must be mature and reactive to intervene in the event of an alarm, and the site must have an in-house thermal imaging camera.

In this way, the E-PREDICT system offers an alternative solution to traditional gas extinguishing systems, which are very costly for our policyholders, and enables us to monitor a larger number of cabinets, thereby reducing the risks of an incident occurring.

Verlingue

“Verlingue’s engineering department keeps abreast of the latest technological developments in order to better support its customers. That’s why we were interested in the innovative E-Predict technology.

Electrical fires remain a recurrent cause of claims. In addition to material damage, they often lead to business stoppages, especially if the damaged electrical equipment is of strategic importance (electrical cabinets, PLCs, etc.).

To date, electrical risk management involves a high level of maintenance (essential) and, in some cases, detection and protection systems. These traditional systems detect fires (smoke, heat) when they are in their growth phase, more or less quickly.

At best, the fire will be confined to the cabinet, resulting in its partial destruction.
At worst, if protection is absent or ineffective, the fire can spread throughout the building.

In some cases, the financial implications of destroying electrical equipment are unacceptable.

E-Predict sensors collect a different set of data from traditional systems, namely gases, VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) and micro-particles. As this phenomenon can appear several days/weeks before ignition, it is now possible to intervene well before a fire starts. It’s this very early onset that we found so interesting.
